The God of The Big and The Intricate

When we think of God, it is easy to see how big He is and think of all the “big things”
He does. Such as He, “Stretches out the heavens by his hand”, Isaiah 42:5.
Or “Creating mountains”. Too often we fail to see or even realize how He is the God of
the most intricate details. Psalm 139: 13-17 says, “You made all the delicate, inner parts
of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so
wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. You watched
me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the
womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your
thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered!”
We see that He knitted us together, from the first cell of our being to the creation of our
DNA. God created and skillfully molded you into the woman he desires you to be...Just
as no two fingerprints are the same nor two DNA the same, no one person is a perfect
reproduction of another human being. Yet we still find ourselves trying to fit into a mold
of what we think the “perfect mom, or student, or career, or you fill in the blank” the list
can go on.
I remember when I first started homeschooling my children I thought I had to make
my bread from scratch, grind the flour, grow things, knit blankets, and wear rompers.
(Yes, you should laugh here if you know me)
I tried so hard to fit into this mold. While I can make bread, it was so hard to keep up
with the amount we needed and the time to make it. I truly tried to crochet... let's just say
I should never pick up a crochet or knitting needle again... I felt like I was looked down
on, or at least thought I was because I didn’t do those things and I certainly was not
great at them. I finally realized that I do not have those particular skills. The Lord simply
called me to teach my children about Christ first and then academics. There was no
scripture telling me I had to do all those other things. So, I gladly pay others to make
bread and blankets for me :).
We should all strive to follow the one true example of Christ, in doing so we should
also acknowledge that he intentionally created each person completely different from
each another. He created each of us unique.
In Genesis chapter one verses 3,6,9,11,14,20,24,and 26 it says “ Then God said...and
that is what happened.” God spoke what he wanted into existence. And in verse 31
“Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was very good,” He spoke
and things happened. He spoke and his words created. He spoke and nothing became
something amazing. He spoke and you were created and he looked at all he created and
saw that it was very good. He looked at you and saw that you are very good. Everything
about you, your height, your hair color, your eyes, your skills, your personality, is very
good.
We should rest in the fact that in his intricate knitting of us, he will also guide us into
the woman he wants us to be not who we think we are supposed to be or what other
people think we should be. When we are in a place where we don’t know what to do,
what to say, or what to..you fill in the blank again. Remember that He is our creator, our
counselor and only He knows how we take. While I hate the saying “ be the best version
of yourself”( augh insert eye roll), Absolutely be the person He created you to be and
embrace it. At the same time, let Him change the things that need to be changed.
