Beauty is the thing that all women want to be. It is a standard that we set comparing ourselves to other women, to the internet, to magazines, to…but What is Beauty?

Webster's dictionary defines beauty as The quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit.

Particularly graceful, ornamental, or excellent quality

In Isaiah 62:3 it says “ We are a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord.  In his hand, under his protection, he is a defense for us, a beauty to him.”

In Genesis 1:26,27,31 “When God created mankind, he looked at us and saw that it was very good”

God, the creator of all things, saw that his created life is very good.

Look at the amazing things God has created. We look at the mountains and title them, Majestic, we look at rivers and waterfalls and title them Magnificent, We look at the sunrise and sunset and title them glorious, yet when we look at ourselves in the mirror or other humans we have less than very good as the title. We try to achieve the “perfect” look, body, and height...We are not satisfied with who God created us to be.

The idea of beauty has changed from generation to generation. What one thought was beautiful, has changed to something else. Mankind has tried to “perfect” beauty and attain acceptance worldwide.

Throughout history, beauty standards have evolved significantly, from the Renaissance ideal of pale skin, wavy hair, and curvy bodies to the 1980s preference for bright blue eye shadow, tall hair, and skinny figures. Each era redefines beauty, raising the question: Why let society, social media, and magazines dictate beauty when these standards are ever-changing?

Why do we not realize who we are in the eyes of God, our creator, who loves us more than any human can?

You see,  each human has a different DNA, and even identical twins have different fingerprints. What does that mean? There is no one on the earth like you, you are unique, you are precious, you are one of a kind..quite literally.

Psalm 139:13,14 “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. “

He created us; we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Who are we in God's eyes? We are his creation, we are his, we are beautiful, we are loved, and we are royalty.

Esther- For such a time as this. Esther 2:7-9(but read the whole story) her worth was found not just in her beauty, but in her trust and Faith in Christ. She didn’t choose more to make her beautiful, she chose the simple and what was suggested for her. Her beauty was not only beauty of appearance it was inward. According to some Jewish historians, Esther was greenish in color and not very attractive, however, other  commentaries say:  literally, "beautiful in form and lovely to look at." Or, as the NIV has it, lovely in form and features.

What caused her to be the most beautiful woman, was her character. She found her worth in her God and who he created her to be.

While Esther was supposedly chosen as queen because of her external beauty, “ We are taught that when the internal is elevated and beautiful, it will show through to the external so that she can be seen as nothing other than beautiful”. This is one of the main themes throughout the text of Eishet Chayil, “A Woman of Valor” from Proverbs, which teaches us: “Grace and beauty are false; it is the woman who has awe for her Creator that is blessed.”

Esther was most likely a very beautiful woman, but what does her beauty look like? We don’t know, and it doesn't matter. God chose to make her beautiful for her time and use that for His Glory, not to make her feel better about herself.

Esther 4: 8-17 In fear she acted, she sought the Lord, asked others to pray, and was prepared to give all she had to be obedient. It was her confidence in her God, and knowing that He had created her for that purpose, that made her true beauty. She accepted the role that God had appointed her.

Other women in the bible were considered beautiful by their Faith in Christ.

1 Peter 3:3-5 says “Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God. This is how the holy women of old made themselves beautiful. They trusted God and accepted the authority of their husbands.”

Proverbs 31: 10 & 30 “An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels” “Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”

The mother of the king did not tell her son to look for the most beautiful woman or the woman who has the perfect body, or who had dark hair, and perfect skin….She told him to look for a virtuous woman a woman who fears the Lord.

Sarah Was also a beautiful woman according to Genesis 12:11”...I know that you are a woman beautiful in appearance,” and then Hebrews 11:11 “By faith Sarah..” talks about her Faith and 1 Peter 3:6 “For instance, Sarah obeyed her husband, Abraham, and called him her master. You are her daughters when you do what is right without fear of what your husbands might do”.Doing what is right without fear…

Have you ever met someone you thought was good-looking, only to get to know them and find that their character was quite ugly? Did that change the way you saw them? What about the other way around?

The word does not specify whether Ruth was beautiful, but it highlights her decision to trust in the Lord during the most challenging times.

Ruth 1:16 “Your God will be my God.. 2:12 “May the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge, reward you fully for what you have done.”

Deborah- Judges 4:4-9 & 14  Deborah was a prophet and judge of Israel. She chose to be obedient to the message the Lord gave and brought victory. Vs 17-21 Jael “ just a tent maker” was a woman of victory.

The common denominator in these women is their trust in God. They knew their identity in God's eyes, ignoring others' opinions and societal norms, and relying on Christ for their beauty, worth, and purpose.

Eph 2:10” For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

We are God’s Masterpiece. What is a masterpiece? a work done with extraordinary skill, that which has been made by God.

Workmanship- a piece of work done by the creator.

The famous Picasso painting features a subject he was most passionate about: his wife Marie-Therese Walter.  The painting has been interpreted in a variety of ways, but the gist of it is that the way Picasso saw his woman and the way she saw herself were not the same.

Do we view ourselves the way God, our creator, views us?

Dearly loved by God-

Romans 5:5 - 8 For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.6 When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. 7 Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. 8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners

John 16:27 for the Father himself loves you dearly because you love me and believe that I came from God

Eph 3:18-19 And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. 19 May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

When we understand God’s love for us, and how dearly we are loved by him, not because of what we do, what we look like, what others think, but because he created us, that is when we are complete. The world and its ideas, thoughts, and opinions become nothing to us because our identity is in the love of Christ.

We are not worthy of his love, we are not all that, but he thought we were worth being created and we were worth dying for.

We are children of God

1 John 3:1, See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him.

John 1:12, But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.

            Romans 8:14-17,

Eph1:5 God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.

When we truly understand who we are in the eyes of God—our value to Him, how precious we are, and that we were created intentionally for a purpose—everything changes. As we grasp that He sees each of us individually and loves us deeply, the cares of the world, the opinions of others, and even our own self-doubt begin to fade away.

This is where confidence is born, it is the confidence of Christ in you, of his power and work in you, not the confidence of self.

Who are you in the eyes of God? You are a daughter of the king of kings, the one true God, You are a princess.
